Bolinus ialah genus bagi siput laut, moluska gastropod lautan dalam keluarga Muricidae, iaitu siput nunam atau siput batu.[2]
Genus ini diketahui dari rekod fosil zaman Miosen hingga Pliosen (julat zaman: dari 15.97 ke 2.588 ribu tahun lalu). Cangkerang fosil dalam genus ini ditemukan di Cyprus, Austria, Itali dan Turkiye.[3]
Beberapa spesies moluska ini telah diketahui sejak masa kuno sebagai sumber pencelup ungu dan turut menjadi sumber makanan yang terkenal.
Penerangan
Cangkerang dewasa bagi spesies Bolinus boleh mencapai ukuran sekitar 60–200 milimeter (2.4–7.9 in). Ia selalunya perang keemasan atau pucat, kasar dan berduri dengan terusan sifon lurus dan panjang, dan pusaran tubuh yang lebar dan bulat.
Taburan
Siput dalam genus ini banyak hidup di sepanjang pesisir Atlantik Afrika dan di Laut Mediterranean.
Habitat
Ia mendiami perairan cetek dan menggemari substrat berbatu dan berkerikil.
