BBC One merupakan saluran televisyen utama untuk BBC, dan merupakan stesen televisyen yang pertama dimulakan di United Kingdom (sebagai BBC Television Service (Perkhidmatan Televisyen BBC) hingga 1960, selepas itu ditukarkan nama kepada BBC tv hingga 1964). Saluran ini mempunyai belanjawan tahunan sebanyak £840 juta.[1] Ia dibiayai penuh oleh lesen televisyen, dan oleh itu tidak mempunyai iklan komersil.

Pada 2 November 1936, BBC memulakan perkhidmatan televisyen awam yang pertama di dunia dengan resolusi imej yang tinggi[2].
