En 1798, Richard Taylor fondis la filozofian revuon, Philosophical Magazine, kio estis la unua scienca revuo estanta publikigita fare de sendependa eldonisto. En 1852 la apotekisto D-ro William Francis aliĝis al la firmao [3]. En 1936 ĝi estis registrita kiel privata limigita firmao.

La eldonejo eldonas pli ol cent revuojn kaj ĉirkaŭ 1 800 novajn librojn ĉiujare [4].

En 2004, la eldonisto kunfandiĝis kun la grupo Informa, kaj nuntempe ĝi funkcias kiel ĝia akademia sekcio.
