Page 6 (subtitolita Atari Users Magazine) estis brita komputila kaj videoluda magazino dediĉita al la uzantoj de 8-bitaj Atari-komputiloj kaj Atari ST. La unua numero aperis en 1982. Ĝi estis renomita al Page 6 Atari User kaj poste New Atari User, antaŭ ol ĉesi eldonadon en 1998.

Historio

La magazino originis en Birmingham kiel la bulteno de User's Group, sendependa Atari-klubo. Les Ellingham estis nomumita kiel la redaktoro de la bulteno, sed decidis produkti magazinon kun pli vasta kovrado anstataŭe. Li restis redaktoro de Page 6 dum ĝia tuta ekzisto de 85 numeroj. Kvankam ĝi estis plejparte havebla nur per abono, ĝi ankaŭ estis disponebla tra gazetbudoj dum la malfruaj 1980-aj kaj fruaj 1990-aj jaroj.

Kiam Database ĉesis eldoni la originan magazinon Atari User en 1988, Page 6 aĉetis la rajtojn (kaj abonan liston),[1] kaj renomigis sian magazinon unue al Page 6 Atari User en februaro 1989[1][2] kaj poste al New Atari User en junio de la sama jaro.[3] Ĉi tiu lasta estis simple Page 6 sub malsama (kaj pli gazetbud-taŭga) nomo,[3]. Ĝi havis preskaŭ neniun similecon kun la origina Atari User : la redaktoro Les Ellingham fakte malakceptis la oferton redakti la originalan Atari User kiam Database Publications alproksimiĝis lin en 1985.

Pro "alta interezkvoto, hezito de la gazetbudaj komercoj subteni magazinojn kun malgranda vendokvanto kaj malpliiĝanta enspezo de reklamado", New Atari User estis retirita de podetalaj vendejoj kaj transiris al ekskluzive abona modelo ekde la 59-a numaro (decembro–januaro 1993).[4][5]

Titolo

La magazino estis nomita laŭ la memorareo de 8-bitaj Atari-komputiloj kovranta la lokojn 1536 ĝis 1791. Memoro estas dividita en paĝojn de 256 bitokoj (la unua estas paĝo 0). La sesa paĝo komenciĝas je 256×6, aŭ 1536. Paĝo 6 estas nek uzata de la operaciumo nek de Atari BASIC, kaj tial povas esti sekure uzata por stoki mallongajn maŝinlingvajn rutinojn por plirapidigi BASIC-programojn.
