Jon Edward AHLQUIST estis usona molekula biologo kaj ornitologo kiu specializiĝis en molekula filogenetiko. Li ege kunlaboris kun Charles Sibley, ĉefe ĉe la Universitato Yale. Ĉirkaŭ 1987, kaj Ahlquist kaj Sibley forlasis la universitaton Yale.
