Genisto estas malaltaj sendornaj arbedoj kaj arbustoj kun orflavaj floroj en spikoj aŭ kapoj en la fino de la ŝosoj aŭ malofte en folianguloj.
Sub la esprimo genisto, oni ĝenerale arigas ne nur la genron Genista sed ankaŭ la genrojn Cytisus, Chamaecytisus, Spartium ktp... Ĉiuj tiuj genroj entenas proksimume 150 speciojn.
