La ġayn (arabe ﻏﻴﻦ, ġayn) estas la deknaŭa litero de la araba alfabeto. En la klasika araba reprezentas la fonemon, /ɣ/.[1] Tiele ĝi reprezentas sonon frikativan, postvelaran kaj voĉan.

En la abjad-numeraloj havas la valoron de 1000, kvankam en Magrebo kutimas havi la valoron de 900.[2]

Historio

Ĝi estas unu de la ses literoj de la araba alfabeto kiuj aldoniĝis al la 22 hereditaj de la fenica alfabeto (la aliaj estas ṯāʾ, dāl, ḍād, ẓāʾ kaj ḏāl) kaj ĝi estas, esence, varianto de la ʿayn.
