WikiCanberra - a regular meetup for the Canberran Wikimedian community

  • Date: Saturday 30 May 2026
  • Time: 1pm-3pm
  • Location: National Library of Australia, Ferguson Room (Level One). Take the Lift up to Level 1 and turn right and right again, or take the stairs and walk straight, room is ahead on your left.
  • Description: The first meeting of what will hopefully be a regular meetup for Canberra Wikimedians. While people new to editing are welcome, it is expected you will have created a Wikipedia account and bring your own device.
  • Organiser: Kassi, Board member for Wikimedia Australia and local Canberran Wikimedian

Hi, I had hoped to come but I am heading to Melbourne tomorrow for three weeks, and just have too much to do. I am sorry, as I have been a longtime Canberra Wikipedian, albeit a more casual editor in recent years. I would love to be kept informed of what transpires. Questions

What happens at the meetup? Is it an editing session where we just do our wikipedia work together and chat a bit or is it a teaching session or joint editing session where we all work on the same article?

As it is the first meeting I intend to use it as an opportunity to discuss what people would like to do or hope to get out of regular meetups, whether that be working on our own stuff while chatting, collaborating on an article, working on our own articles but for the same project e.g. WikiProject Canberra, or learning how to do something new. As someone who is new to editing more seriously/regularly, I would love to hear more about just the general roles, hierarchies, and back end tools that come up for more experienced wikimedians. I wonder if it's something that would make sense to run as a short opening session for some meetings before we move onto editing our own projects?
