-
Editing & cleanup: Fix typos, update examples, and replace broken links on help pages. -
Writing & clarity: Reword confusing sections, simplify explanations, or modernize outdated instructions. - 🧭 Navigation & layout: Improve page structure, test templates, or streamline navigation systems.
-
Ask & learn: Not sure where to start? Visit the project talk page — editors there can help you find your first task.
Tip: Start small—one clear, well-phrased paragraph can make a big difference to newcomers.

Why this project matters
Wikipedia's help pages were written by many contributors over many years for different audiences. This has led to overlapping pages, inconsistent tone, and outdated or hard-to-find information.
The Help Project works to coordinate cleanup, modernization, and ongoing maintenance—so everyone from readers to experienced editors can find the guidance they need quickly and easily.
Goals
Our main goal is to make Wikipedia's help pages easier to read, navigate, and maintain.
Ongoing objectives:
- Simplify and merge redundant pages.
- Prevent instruction creep and overly technical language.
- Improve navigation and page layout.
- Ensure accessibility for all users.
- Keep examples and screenshots current.
Open tasks
High-priority
- Redesign the Help:Introduction tutorial series for a clearer flow.
- Reorganize Category:Wikipedia help and related subcategories.
- Modernize WP:Task Center into a more welcoming start page for new editors.
Navigation & accessibility
- Develop consistent, user-friendly help navigation templates (see /Overview).
- Build out an Accessible Nav Box.
Ongoing maintenance
- Discuss ideas and improvements on the project talk page.
- Tag relevant help pages with {{Wikipedia Help Project}}.
- Redirect misplaced questions to appropriate spaces (Help desk, Teahouse, etc.).
- Watch Special:RecentChangesLinked/Category:Wikipedia_Help_Project_pages for edits needing review.
