Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2014 July 2

  • My opinion is that the quotations are far too long, and serve no useful purpose as far as encyclopedia building goes. People who come to Wikipedia for content for other websites assume that material they find here is freely available under license, and they may copy / re-use it under that assumption. I think all The Law of One material should be removed. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:36, 6 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • How can one think that they can copy The Law of One quotes from my userpage to re-use, where there are clear copyright notices (like "Session 37, March 12 1981 The Law of One books are copyright ©1982, 1984, 1998 L/L Research") in accordance with the policy. The most probable scenario is that, people visiting my userpage, google the phrases "L/L Research" or "Law of one" and reach the freely available main sources where they can find the complete sessions, instead of mere sections. I did see that you've marked it as copyright, but this use of copyright material violates our fair use guidelines. My opinion stands. -- Diannaa (talk) 19:13, 6 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I believe you did see. My opinion is that my usage of those copyrighted material in a transformed fashion is in accordance with fair use actually. Logos (talk) 20:11, 6 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I understand your opinion and disagree with it. -- Diannaa (talk) 23:51, 6 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
So, you suggest me to get rid of the longer excerpts? Logos (talk) 16:35, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
All the quotations from The Law of One need to be removed imo. How about providing a link to where interested persons can download the material? -- Diannaa (talk) 16:41, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking something similar; replacing excerpts with links to related sessions in http://www.lawofone.info/ (this is the only website/person that has a copyright permission from llresearch). Logos (talk) 17:42, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
yes, that would be perfect. Why don't you go ahead and do that? Thanks so much for your cooperation. -- Diannaa (talk) 18:16, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Since the procedure reads as "If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at User talk:Logos saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved.", I guess one of you is appointed by the process for moving. Logos (talk) 21:20, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed and redacted the material from The Law Of One. Please do not re-add this or any other copyright material to your user page. -- Diannaa (talk) 22:19, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but I guess you misunderstood; you didn't have to redact anything, you would just copy the content in this temporary page, which I worked out recently, to my userpage. Anyways, I will copy myself. Logos (talk) 22:22, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't re-add any of the copyright material to any page or sub-page. I have cleaned the sub-page and redacted there as well. -- Diannaa (talk) 22:35, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You could just ask me to remove; because while redacting hastings & mishlove conversation, which I don't know how you arrived at a conclusion that it's copyrighted, you removed some of my own writing as well. Logos (talk) 22:40, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Replied on your talk page. -- Diannaa (talk) 22:55, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I believe copyright administrators could develop some senses of Berne_Convention#Fair_use and transformation. Maybe we should amend the related policy/guideline accordingly to relieve some responsibility/burden undertaken. Logos (talk) 23:28, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
