The Renfrew Timberwolves are a Canadian junior ice hockey team from Renfrew, Ontario. They played in the Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League until the league was re-branded the Central Canada Hockey League Tier 2 (CCHL2) in 2015.
History
The Renfrew Jr. B Timberwolves came into existence in 1967 as the Renfrew Lions, sponsored by the Renfrew Lions Club and captured their first Eastern Ontario Championship that year.
In the early 1970s, Renfrew's junior team became the Timberwolves and the team has since captured eight other Eastern Ontario titles: 1977, 1988, 1990, and 1993.[citation needed]
Banners on the wall at Ma-Te-Way Arena also include 8 Valley Division Titles and 4 Boxing Day Tournament Titles which all attest to the success that the team has enjoyed over the years. Not only has the team been successful as a community group, but many individual players have gone on to University, Semi-pro, or Professional Teams.
The franchise is one of 13 in the Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League, and is one of six in the Valley Division. The league was divided into two conferences and four divisions; The Metro-Valley and the Rideau-St. Lawrence. These divisions have been renamed the Martin and Richardson Divisions.
On October 27, 2017, tragedy forever shaped the hockey community when four local young hockey players from the Timberwolves were involved in a car accident later determined to be alcohol-related. They were honoured that season with their numbers hung in the rafters and number patches stenciled under the ice they once skated.[1]
Later that year they made the playoffs and won the first series before being swept in the next round.
Since then, the Timberwolves have had numerous staff changes as well as new ownership and a new ice rink since departing Eganville after an unsuccessful short tenure, returning to Renfrew.
During the 2024–2025 season, they made franchise history with their first division title, leading the team to a regular-season franchise record of 30 wins as they posted a 30–15–2–1 season, although they fell short in the division quarterfinals to end their year.
