User talk:Cartoonmaps

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, the external links you added do not comply with our guidelines for external links. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you.--Malepheasant 19:31, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop. If you continue to add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Crested Butte, Colorado, you will be blocked from editing. --Malepheasant 19:42, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is your last warning. The next time you insert a spam link, as you did to Milford, Delaware, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted as well, preventing anyone from linking to them from any site that uses the MediaWiki spam blacklist, which includes all of Wikimedia and Wikipedia. --Malepheasant 19:55, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your question

The links you're trying to put on Wikipedia aren't in accordance with Wikipedia's guidelines on external links, which you should read all the way through. In particular, "you should avoid linking to a website that you own, maintain or represent." Your "Cartoonmaps" username, the single-purpose nature of your contributions, and your reference to these websites as "our links" on my talk page suggest you're running afoul of Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines. Beyond that, it's clear that paid advertisement is the primary purpose of these websites -- they have no value as a reliable source for encyclopedic content. Wikipedia is not a directory, and it's not an indiscriminate collection of information. Being "community-based" (an unverifiable claim and rather meaningless when it comes to websites) isn't a top source of consideration in this regard, and local chambers of commerce aren't known for being the best sources of encyclopedic content that adheres to Wikipedia's policies on maintaining a neutral point of view.--Malepheasant 18:55, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
