Who Am I

My name is Randy Yates. Born in 1957, I am an electrical engineer living in North Carolina, U.S. Since 2005 I have been the sole proprietor of Digital Signal Labs, http://www.digitalsignallabs.com.

My specialty is embedded firmware and software development as well algorithm development and implementation. I use GNU Octave quite often and have also directly implement algorithms in C and C++. I especially enjoy fixed-point arithmetic implementations of algorithms, which usually provides a faster algorithm, power savings, improved performance, or a combination of all. See my article on the subject at http://www.digitalsignallabs.com/fp.pdf.

I hang out a lot on the Usenet news group comp.dsp, where I both learn from and contribute to diverse topics in the area of digital signal processing.
