It is used to make repetitive automated or semi-automated edits that would be extremely tedious to do manually, in accordance with the bot policy. This bot does not yet have the approval of the community, or approval has been withdrawn or expired, and therefore shouldn't be making edits that appear to be unassisted except in the operator's or its own user and user talk space. Wikibot is a bot which uses the code from Rob Hooft's Robbot. It adds, modifies, and standardizes interlanguage links. Operator is Alex Plank.
In addition, Wikibot helps out in the #wikipedia IRC channel. It was created by Alex Plank in November 2003. It has a database made by a PHP script designed by Tim Starling which took the facts from the Wikipedia database. It already has a very large amount of information and will continue to be updated. You can visit Wikibot in the #Wikibot channel of irc.freenode.net. At the last count, Wikibot had 197_636 factoids in his database.
