Vincent van Warmerdam is involved in a wide range of musical activities. As the youngest of three sons of an art-loving ‘bühnenmeister’ in IJmuiden, he was brought up in a rich cultural environment and while playing rockmusic in his early years, the ability to contribute to the storytelling grew among his other talents and led him organically to the theatre and cinema. He started in the early seventies playing the electric guitar in the Amsterdam rock theatre group Hauser Orkater and developed as a composer in the musical theatre of De Mexicaanse Hond with his brothers Alex and Marc.

Composed a great number of scores for film and tv and was awarded 'Best Dutch Film Composer' for Abel, ‘European Composer of the Year’ (Felix) for The Northerners (both directed by Alex van Warmerdam). Won a 'Gouden Kalf' Best Filmmusic for 'Kicks' (2007) and was previously nominated four times (Ober, Polleke a.o.). In addition, his band The Moondogs was nominated for an Edison with the album ‘Diamond in the Crowd’. Composed for Jiskefet, ('Dit is mijn Club' is still played every homegame in the Ajax Arena), the Ebonyband olv Werner Herbers, Sexteto Canyengue olv Carel Kraayenhof, Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, Nationaal Toneel, Theater van het Oosten, Capella Amsterdam, Domestica Rotterdam, Barbara Hannigan, Roberta Alexander, Marcel Worms, Cora Burggraaf, Calefax, het Metropole Orkest, Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest, the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and – numerous times - for Orkater. The musical theatre play Who Murdered Mary Rogers? was awarded with the ‘CJP Podium Prijs’ and the ‘Proscenium Prijs’.

In cooperation with Harm van den Berg and Marcel de Rooij in 2007 he opened a recording studio in the centre of Amsterdam, 'de Slapende Hond'
