The Reeder Street Fellowship, or Reeder Scholars Program is an intellectually focused student community and living group at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania. The Fellowship was established in 2005 as Lafayette’s Second intellectual community, following the McKelvy House in 1962. The members of the fellowship hold weekly dinner discussions, as well as sponsor other academic and social events both on and off campus for the college community at-large.[1]
Establishment
The Reeder Street Fellowship was established in 2005, with student Ben Doremus acting as the founding President and Resident Advisor. The program was established in a response to an overwhelming demand for places in the McKelvy academic house, located adjacent to Reeder Street. Chawne Kimber, associate professor of mathematics at Lafayette, acted as faculty advisor to the Fellowship in its first year of existence, and played a key part in its creation when she asked the office of residence life to designate the Reeder Steeet location as a second academic house[1].
Location
The Reeder Street Fellowship is located at 225 Reeder Street in Easton Pennsylvania, near the Lafayette College campus. The building occupied by the fellows is a former fraternity house. It is located adjacent to the McKelvy academic house. [1]
Current Program
The current (2008-2009 academic year) Reeder Street Fellows are advised by Professor Jorge Torres. They offer the following description of the program on the official Reeder Street Fellowship website:
As a student run organization and living group, the Reeder Street Fellows facilitate a lively community relationship in the house. By encouraging activity among its residents, the Lafayette community, and beyond, this unique residential environment promotes social, personal, and intellectual growth. [2]
