Evan M. Greenspan^[1] is the founder and CEO of Evan M. Greenspan, Inc. a leading music rights firm with a global clientele that has handled tens of thousands of music clearances for projects in all media. EMG's television clients include (alphabetically) A&E Networks, Disney/ABC, BBC Worldwide, CBS/Viacom, FOX, HBO, NBC/Universal, OWN, and Telepictures Corporation as well as Al Gore's CurrenTV network, BET, TVOne, and Discovery Networks. EMG's best known credits include The Academy Awards, The Emmys, Kennedy Center Honors, HBO's "Boardwalk Empire," "The Sopranos," "True Blood," "Sex and The City" and "Entourage," ABC's "Dancing with the Stars," "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and "Ellen." Evan holds a degree in music from the University of Pennsylvania where he was also a performer and writer in the Mask and Wig Club, producer, host, engineer and business affairs manger for WXPN radio, and the sackbut player in the Collegium Musicum. He went on to earn an MFA in Theater from UCLA, where he won the Hersher Prize for original music for the stage. He began his professional career as a film and TV composer and remains an active writer/publisher member of ASCAP. In 1983, he founded the music department at Alan Landsburg Productions under Howard Lipstone and Mark Pedowitz, handling music business affairs for a number of series including "That's Incredible" and "Gimme A Break." 1985, he became music rights executive on "Star Search" with Ed McMahon, overseeing music licenses through the series conclusion in the mid-1990's. With "Star Search" and "It's Showtime at the Apollo" as primary clients, EMG became affiliated with the music-driven on-air promotions campaigns at Fox's for over a decade. In the 90's, EMG handled music rights for Witt-Thomas-Harris series such as "The Golden Girls" and "Empty Nest," the 1992 Clinton Inauguration, the premiere season of "Late Night with David Letterman" at CBS (1993), "Married with Children," and the syndicated release of the first 25 seasons of "Saturday Night Live." More recent EMG highlights include Celine Dion's "A New Day" in Las Vegas, and the clearance of the DVD reincarnations of classic series such as "The Honeymooners: The Lost Episodes," "The Midnight Special," "Best of Dean Martin" and "The Carol Burnett Show." Evan is a voting member of the Academy of Television and Arts and Sciences, Past President of the California Copyright Conference, and a guest lecturer for Southern Methodist University, USC, and UCLA Extension and UC Berkeley. He is active in the UCLA Chancellor's Associates and School of Theater/Film and Television Alumni, and on the event planning committee of Mattel Children's Hospital at UCLA. He is married to Liz Rifkin Greenspan; both are proud parents of Julia Brighton Greenspan.
