Before publishing on Wikipedia there are some guidelines you should follow in order to make your article Wikipedia worthy. For insistence, After analyzing two very well written articles I was able to come up with valuable instructions on how to properly write for Wikipedia.

In order to write a good article it requires many sources. As a writer you can't just have an essay or an article without citations and expect the reader to know where you got the information needed to complete the work. For example, Giraffe, which is an article that I analyzed, there were about 121 sources listed at the bottom of the article. That is about how many sources you should have in a well written article. The most important thing to know about sources is their credibility. In order to know if your source is credible it would be best if you try using well known sources. For example, In the article that I analyzed, the author used a variety of sources, such as: different excerpts from The Encyclopedia of Mammals, African journals of ecology and a few medical journals.

There are many different ways to cite sources, when writing on Wikipedia you are challenged to use multiple styles of citations. By citing source you show that your information actually came from a credible source and that you didn't just make up your own facts.You also help the readers find out any extra information about your topic that you may not have covered in your article.Since most wikipedia articles usually have tons of inline citations, you should try to have as many as possible. The purpose of an inline citation is to give the reader the specific location of the information used to support your claims. It also helps you avoid being accused of plagiarism. A downside to using them incorrectly is that it could potentially draw the reader's attention from your article, so be careful! In order to correctly use this style you have to insert a hyperlink attached to the word you are provide extra information to.

Wikipedia sandbox is a tool for its users to craft the ideas needed to create their articles. Before finalizing and publishing it to the public, it is important that you do not write directly on wikipedia until you completely finished with your sandbox. The sandbox is meant for writers to create their drafts and edit it freely without the interference of others. It also allows you to play around with all of Wikipedia's features and figure out how exactly you want to organize your article.

Any article pertaining to animals should be anywhere from 1,000 words to 2,000 words in order for it to be considered a good article. The article should cover more than just basic information. Adding complex and rare information about your topic gives you room to expand the article. Adding pictures will also help expand the article. It is good to have a few visual representations of your topic to add uniqueness to your work.
