Klaus Thymann is a London based photographer and filmmaker.
Biography
Klaus Thymann is one of the most foremost image makers working today. His use of the natural environment is a key element to Klaus' signature. He has had no formal training. Everything he has learned in the world of photography has been through a series of trial and error, experimentation, and reading of manuals. [1] He opened his first studio in 1995, and he specializes in editorial photography and documentary. [2]
On an interview with Little White Lies, and independent film magazine, Klaus Thymann was asked "who are you"? He responded: "My name is Klaus Thymann, I like slippers and a nice cup of tea, sometimes a cognac. I also really like my succulents in my garden, but when I am not doing old man's things, then I do images and film for a wide range of projects and clients. " [3]
Work
Klaus has published a book called "Hybrids". To Klaus Thymann, Hybrid is the creation of something by combining two very different elements. In Klaus' book, Hybrids, it is a photographic journey of developing sub-cultures that are scarcely given a chance to materialize.The photographs were taken between 2003 and 2007. In his words, "Hybrids explores the white areas on the cultural map". It is a fine art book and a limited edition of only 500 copies was produced. Each book contains an original print of one of five variations. [4]
Klaus is involved in a photographic documentary of glaciers worldwide, called Project-Pressure. This project focuses on the most endangered glaciers and it is in official collaboration with the world renowned World Glacier Monitoring Service (WGMS). [5]
Klaus was included in the book "50 Top Contemporary Photographs", published by DAAB. At the Danish Advertising awards, he won "Best Out-Door" for his Coca-Cola campaign for Northern Europe. He also received merit at the Fujifilm Distinction Awards in 2008. He was the winner of best photo at the DK advertising awards of 2003, He won a Clio silver award in 2002, winner of best music video at the Danish Grammy awards in 1999, winner of Music photo of the year in 1998, and won as the youngest ever in the Scandanavian "Kodak Gold Award" in 1996. His solo exhibitions include no.one in London 2006, r-s-v-p gallery in Munich 2005, Viaux Gallery in Hamburg 2004. [7]
Some charities he is involved in are Tsunami Fotorelief, WHO, Red Cross, and Cancer Research UK. [8]
Some of Klaus' clients include Levi's, Nike Jordan, Adidas, Speedo, Cannon, Asics, Garnier, T-Mobile, Vodafone, Target, BMW Motorcycles, Nieman Marcus, Carlsberg, Le Coq Sportif, Orgreen, Coca-Cola, Sony, Playstation, PS2, SAS, Bogner, Jaguar, Audi, Johnny Walker, Selfridges and Nokia.
Some of his music clients include Depeche Mode, Coldplay, Green Day, David Bowie, The Kills, The Gossip, Liam Gallagher, The Hives, Supergrass, Prodigy, Cardigans, My Chemical Romance, Suene, Moloko, Elvis Costello, Craig David, and Junior Senior. [9]
