Ras Banamungu (born Idi Banamungu, birth date, in Kigali, Rwanda) is a vocalist and musical therapist who now lives in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.

Ras Banamungu was already a messianic singer and worship leader in his native country (Rwanda) and also well-known for his many charitable works as a musical therapist; dancing and singing his songs of freedom and joy to entertain children for Edutainment, and to many AIDS-ridden in the scattered orphanages that abound in the aftermath of the genocide more than two decades ago. The peace and love activist Ras Banamungu passionately commit his life to the quest for healing of those who encountered trauma, despite the fact that in his teens, Ras, lived through the horrendous atrocities of the Rwandan Genocide. It was his passion that led him to be a music therapist in Rwanda since the year 2006 as a way of healing people after the Genocide. He founded Counselling Envisioning Community (CVC) on (date) where he worked in orphanages with AIDS victims and genocide survivors who had encountered unimaginable violence, trauma, starvation, and terror.

Ras Banamungu also worked with GIFSA (Goldfields Individual and Family Support Association) in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, a non-profit organization, as a Support Worker (start date-end date) and provide workshop sessions to their clients through one of their programs called Rejuvenation Through Recreation (RTR). Their program develops social and individual skills for youngsters and adults working on social community participation, and capacity-building support as identified in their NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) funded plan.

Coming together as a fully working unit early in 2015, Ras Banamungu & the DET-N-ATORS originated in Kigali, Rwanda. In early 2013, veteran rock, pop, and jazz vocalist and musician Steven Dean met up with reggae, afrobeat, and kinihall performer Ras Banamungu in Rwanda whilst they were both working together on an international project. Steven and Banamungu, also a partner in the trauma project, hit it off straight away and began writing, recording, and performing songs together shortly afterward; drawing their influences from both traditional African and Western musical ideas. Abadahigwa International Movement (AIM) a Musical fellowship Movement for Edutainment was formed shortly after Steven Dean met Ras Banamungu in Rwanda in the Spring of 2013. Deciding to combine their talents to bring about a whole new design in international music, they wrote and recorded a respectable number of tracks together in Rwanda and Kenya leaving Rwanda for Australian shores in late 2013, Ras Banamungu and Steve Dean have since become incorporated into Aussie rock, pop and blues band, the DET-N-ATORS. The Det-n-ators International is an extension of the original idea behind the Abadahigwa International Movement (Aim). In 2015, they recorded two new tracks under the name of Ras Banamungu & the DET-N-ATORS at Gold Dust Construction Studio at Leederville in Perth. Some of the highlights of the band’s career were the performances in 2015 WA Oneness Festival and the 2015 Gidgestock Festival.
