Sue Barr

Susan Barr (born December 15, 1957 Manchester, New Hampshire) is a fine art photographer specializing in lifestyle photography. Accepts commercial and editorial assignments, stock photo requests, wedding/milestone events, and portrait commissions. She received the American Photographic Artists (previously Advertising Artists of America) award for Lifestyle Photographer of the Year in 2008.

Career

Barr was previously a professional fashion stylist during the 1980s and 90s trained by Keisha Keeble Cabaco and Irene Albright. Clients included Duff the MTV VJ (media personality), Bon Jovi, Hall and Oates, Carly Simon,Prince, and John Mellencamp. During 1984 to 2000 Barr was the New York Fashion Editor for the Stella Mode section of "Donna Magazine" located in Milan, Italy.

Later, Barr was an adjunct professor at Parsons School of Design's New School of Photography from 1989 to 2001.

Education

Barr attended Montserrat School of Visual Art in Beverly, Massachusetts for a year in 1974. She then graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelors of Fine Arts (BFA) in Advertising and Design in 1979.

Published Work/Personal Projects

Published in December 2009 and 2010 by Globe Pequot Press, Barr illustrated Knack's "Raising Your Toddler" and "Health & Wellness of Babies First Year." In addition, Barr and her son have collaborated on a fine art ABC book, "ABC/XYZ." This was a personal project that was self published. Barr is working on an ongoing project called "Conceptions/Misconceptions" which is a photo essay on the new American family.
