Jatin Sapru is an Indian TV sports journalist, broadcaster and cricket commentator for Star Sports. Winner of the ESPN Star Sports Dream job reality hunt, He has presented various top billed sporting events like the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, ICC World Twenty20 2014, ICC World T20 2012, 2012 Summer Olympics amongst many others.

Early Life

Having migrated to New Delhi from Kashmir with his family in 1989, He finished his schooling from the Ryan International Group of Schools. An engineering drop out, Sapru pursued his media interest with a long distance mass communication degree course from Guru Jambeshwar University of Science and technology. A sports nut, he actively played and led his school and college cricket and athletics (shot put, javelin, discus throw) teams.

Early Career

Sapru began his media career as a college community news paper editor. He was the only Indian intern at the Presidential Classroom program in Washington D.C, where his role as a media and communications officer further intensified his journalistic ambitions. He joined Tangerine Digital media, then a Network 18 start-up, where he worked on various sports content teams as a copy writer and commentator.

ESPN Star Sports Dream Job

During his stint with Tangerine, Sapru participated in the second edition of ESPN Star Cricket's talent hunt 'The Dream job', a reality show aiming to hunt down the next cricket presenter for the channel. With judges like former cricketers Ravi Shastri, Wasim Akram, Sunil Gavaskar and celebrity judge Mandira Bedi part of the panel, Sapru went on to the win the contest spread over various rounds including a live broadcast from Melbourne during India's cricket tour to Australia in 2007-2008.

Initial Stint at ESPN Star

From 2008 to 2013, Sapru covered an array of sports for the channel. His debut broadcast was for the IFA Shield Football Tournament in 2008. He presented the channel's flagship offering Cricket Extra, along with hosting other shows including Nike Football Locker Room, Timed Out and Star Mail. He covered and reported on various cricket tournaments including the Asia Cup 2008 in Pakistan, ICC World T20 2009 in England and the 2010 edition in the West Indies, ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, India's tour to a England 2011. He presented ESPN's renowned show Sportscenter India and Asia editions for a few months from the channel's Singapore facility. He was also the only Indian reporter for the channel's coverage of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. He has also covered and presented Tennis, Formula one, Ten pin Bowling and various other motorsports show on the channel.

Lead Presenter

He was the lead presenter for the ICC World T20 2012 where the pre mid and post match analysis show was a huge success. Sapru hosted a panel of pundits including TV debutants Kevin Pietersen, Rahul Dravid and seasoned former cricketers and captains Nasser Hussain , Sourav Ganguly , Mark Waugh amongst many others.

With Star Sports emerging as a sole leader in the Indian market diversifying content with a Hindi feed for the masses, Sapru has been the lead presenter for Star Sports 3 since 2013. He is currently presenting the Studio show Cricket Live for the ICC Cricket World 2015 alongside legends like Kapil Dev, Shoaib Akhtar and many more.
