Calvin Alexander Grant is the son of Jamaican immigrants who was born on February 9, 1970 in Washington, DC. He was raised in the Washington Metropolitian Area. <br /While in grade school, Calvin learned to play the guitar as well as most traditional rock band instruments including: bass, piano, and drums. Later he formed a band with John Brodie. They wrote original rock and roll pieces that were well received by the local community. There efforts continued throughtout their college years when they peaked the attention of record executives. <br /Calvin graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1996 and Massachusettts Eye and Ear Infirmary/Harvard Medical School 2000. He went on to complete his fellowship in vitreoretinal fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in 2002. Dr. Grant was one of the first describe the use of Adeno-associated virus as a gene therapy vector for the retina in 1995 Curr Eye Res. 1997 Sep;16(9):949-56. In 2006 he was one of the first to report RPR and choroidal transplantation in the United States.
