YouTeam is a platform for hiring remote teams of software engineers. In 2018 it was backed by Y Combinator. Unlike many freelancer marketplaces, YouTeam’s engineers work for dev shops and are usually not available for hire as individual specialists.

History

YouTeam was founded in 2014 in London by Ukrainian founders Anton Mishchenko, Yura Riphyak, and Nikita Voloshin. [2] The company has been launched as a “Booking.com for IT outsourcing” — a platform where businesses get access to top international engineering talent and build projects in a secure and trusted environment.[3] After receiving customer acclaim at the Web Summit 2017 in Lisbon and TechCrunch Disrupt in London, YouTeam opened the beta version of its platform to the general public.[4]

Founders managed to bootstrap YouTeam to over €1M in annual gross revenue without any external investment.[5]

In 2018 YouTeam became the 4th Ukrainian startup ever to be accepted into Y Combinator [5] and has taken $120,000 from YC in exchange for 7 percent of its shares. [2] The same year, U.Ventures (a Fund established by Western NIS Enterprise Fund) invested $1.15 million into 3 Ukrainian startups: YouTeam, 3DLook, and Pufetto. [3]

After this, YouTeam’s headquarters was moved to Mountain View, California. The main office, however, is in Lviv, some 500 kilometers west of Kyiv. [4]

Description

YouTeam is a marketplace for hiring tech talent from software development shops. It connects founders with handpicked engineers from vetted agencies around the world. In a nutshell, the process is as simple as when you hire a freelancer but as secure as if you were hiring in-house. [6] YouTeam is focused on hiring remote developers’ teams.

The list of the firms that have worked with programmers available on YouTeam includes Marvel, Amazon, Microsoft, Mercedes-Benz, Nokia, and other companies from around the globe.[2]
