Nancy Van Laan is an American children's author. She worked as a teacher prior to publishing her first book, The Big Fat Worm (1987). Van Laan has drawn inspiration from Native American mythology for several of her books such as Rainbow Crow (1989), In a Circle Long Ago (1995), and Shingebiss: An Ojibwe Legend (1997).
