The following page gives a running example for this RFC.

It consists of two annotated infobox templates, please see the RFC section about Template Annotation.

The information contained in both is supposed to help data extraction processes to extract cleaner data from Wikipedia. Currently the information will only be collected and interlinked with pages on Metawiki. The aim is to create information about a scheme of Wikipedia, which adheres to Ontology standards such as OWL.

Additional information gained by annotation:

  • Both belong to the same class Athlete.
  • Both attributes for birthdate have been unified.

Benefits:

  • It is now possible to extract the information better, which makes it possible to query for Athletes born between 1960 and 1970.
  • A bot or script could check articles based on the template annotations on whether the values in the infoboxes of the articles are correct.
