Dr. Ryan Dunnigan is an American Clinical, Police, and Forensic Psychologist. He earned his Bachelor's degree from University of California Santa Barbara, a Master’s degree in Business Administration from San Diego State University, a Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology from Canyon College, and a Doctoral (Psy.D.) degree in Forensic and Clinical Psychology from Alliant University, San Francisco. He is a licensed Forensic and Clinical Psychologist in California. Dr. Dunnigan is one of only a handful of licensed psychologists in the United States who is also an active police officer. He is a Police Sergeant in Northern California, a Crisis and Hostage Negotiations Team Leader and Team Psychologist, a Criminal Investigator, and a Mental Health Officer. Dr. Dunnigan, over the course of his nearly 15 years in law enforcement and with his psychological training, has become a uniquely qualified expert in both Investigative and Police Psychology. He has conducted or assisted in thousands of psychological evaluations.

Dr. Dunnigan is the Founder and President of Dunnigan Psychological & Threat Assessments. Dr. Dunnigan specializes in Workplace Violence and threats, Psychopathology, Acute and Chronic Stress Responses, Mentally Ill and Violent Offenders, and Forensic Evaluations. Dr. Dunnigan utilizes interviews, psychological assessments, evidence-based testing, forensic techniques, and focused investigative procedures to determine the extent of the concern and to minimize potential for harm.

Dr. Dunnigan is a corporate trainer and speaker who teaches about the types of mental illness and altered mental states one might encounter (inside or outside of an organization); the associated symptoms; identifiable behavioral patterns and presentations by people afflicted by mental illnesses or under the influence of substances; and, safety concerns related to these situations and subjects.

Although Dr. Dunnigan specializes in forensic psychology and threat assessments, he dedicates a part of his practice to providing therapy to first responders who are experiencing acute or chronic symptoms associated with critical incidents or have developed over the course of their stressful careers. His knowledge of the first responder culture, coupled with his training, has been particularly effective in treating his clients.

Outside of his private practice and business, Dr. Dunnigan performs Competency Evaluations and Forensic Evaluations for the court and jail system.
