Big Ben's Comix Oasis is a comic book retail shop located in Allen Park, MI. They are located on Allen Road. They specialize in a variety of items from comic books to action figures. "Big Ben's" has been in business for over twenty years. In that time they have undergone three name changes, starting out as the Book Bank then changing to Big Ben's Comix and now Big Ben's Comix Oasis.[1]

History

Big Ben's Comix Oasis is owned and operated by John "Ben" Davis. Big Ben's started out as the Book Bank in 1984 which was co-owned by Davis and his mother. After purchasing a large comic book collection at an estate sale Davis realized there was a market for selling comic books. Davis continued to sell comic books and moved onto action figures and other collectibles and re-branded the store as "Big Ben's Comix". In June of 2009 Davis re-branded the store again as "Big Ben's Comix Oasis" after relocating to a bigger building in Downtown Allen Park, Michigan.[2]

Exclusive Comic Books

Big Ben's offers several exclusive variant covers of comic books that are available only through their store. They have several variant covers of Grimm Fairy Tales (comics) including Grimm Fairy Tales (comics) #30, Grimm Fairy Tales (comics):Dream Eater Saga #1, Grimm Fairy Tales (comics):Myths & Legends #4, and Grimm Fairy Tales (comics):Tales From Neverland #1.[1]

International Market

Big Ben's has been able to expand internationally through their E-Bay store. Davis claims that more than forty percent of the store's revenue is generated through internet orders.[2]

Awards

Big Ben's Comix Oasis has won a few awards. In the spring of 2008 they won 5th place in Channel 4's "Vote 4 the Best" in the Comics category. And in the spring of 2010 they won 3rd place in the Comics category.[3].
