Queen of the Rosary Catholic Academy
Queen of the Rosary Catholic Academy is a grade school in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, New York, part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn.
About
The Queen of the Rosary Catholic Academy was established in 2010 by the merger of the Northside Catholic Academy on Withers Street and the Saint Nicholas parish school on Powers Street – both in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn.
History
The Saint Nicholas parish school, whose first teacher was a layman, began shortly after the parish of Saint Nicholas was established, in the late 1860’s. The Sisters of Saint Dominic from Ratisbon, Germany, emigrated and assumed the duties of teaching the children of the German immigrants who had settled in the area.
Saint Nicholas School enrolled many of the students from Saint Francis de Paola parish school (1961-1990) when it closed in 1990, and then enrolled many of the students from Saint Cecilia parish school (1891-2008) when it closed in 2008.
The Northside Catholic Academy was formed in 1999 as the result of merging the parish schools of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (1953-1999) and Saint Vincent de Paul (1913-1999).
In 2010, St. Nicholas and Northside were merged to form Queen of the Rosary Catholic Academy.
