Phosphatidylinositol-4-phosphate 5-kinase type-1 alpha is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the PIP5K1A gene.[1][2][3] The enzyme is a kinase that belongs to the group of phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate 5-kinases (PIP5Ks)[3], whose function is the conversion of phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate (PtdIns4P) to phoshatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PtdIns(4,5)P2)[4]. Phosphatidylinositoles are cell membrane phospholipids that play a role in many cellular processes including signal transduction, cytoskeletal dynamics, endocytosis, and stress response[5][6]. The protein has three isoforms (alpha, beta, gamma) with differing cell localization and function.
