Career
Collaboration with Jon Anderson (Yes)
McKee has collaborated extensively with Grammy-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Jon Anderson, original and former lead singer of the progressive rock band Yes. Their work includes the upcoming double concept album Jeremiah and the Magister Ludi, where McKee wrote all the music and performed all instruments. Guests include Carl Broemel of the band My Morning Jacket, John Hermann of the band Widespread Panic and Jordan Rudess of the band Dream Theater. In 2019, McKee and Anderson involved students at Columbia College Chicago in the 5.1 surround sound mixing of parts of the album as part of an educational partnership with the college’s Audio Arts and Acoustics program.[1] The duo were interviewed on WGN-TV to discuss the project.[2]
In 2016, the duo performed at the NAMM convention to demonstrate music software Lumit Audio, which was used for the writing and recording of the song entitled "You Are The Computer".[3]
McKee also worked with Jon Anderson and Jean-Luc Ponty, directing and producing their concert film Better Late Than Never (Anderson Ponty Band album).[4]
Collaboration with Ike Willis (Frank Zappa)
In 2016, McKee co-founded the trio ZAP with Ike Willis, known for his work with Frank Zappa, and Grammy-nominated bassist Chip Z'Nuff. Their debut single, "Air Traffic Control", released on Steve Vai’s Favored Nations label, served as a tribute to Zappa's musical legacy, fusing experimental rock with fusion guitar solos by both Willis and McKee.[5][6]
Film and Television Composition
McKee has composed scores for film, television and commercials. His work in television earned him an Emmy nomination as a composer.
