Valentina Procaccini (born 10 January 2008) is an Italian competitive swimmer specializing in middle- and long-distance freestyle. A multiple national age-group champion and junior record-holder, she represents Circolo Canottieri Aniene and the Italian sports group Fiamme Azzurre. In 2025 she signed a National Letter of Intent to join the University of Florida and compete for the Florida Gators starting in the 2026–27 season.[1][2]
Early life
Procaccini was born in Montesilvano (Province of Pescara, Abruzzo) and began her career at Hurricane Pescara.[3] During the COVID-19 pandemic, to continue her training despite pool closures in Abruzzo, her family moved to Rome, allowing her to join Circolo Canottieri Aniene under coach Gianluca Belfiore.[4] At age 13 she was honored by the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) as a “record-breaking” young swimmer and listed in the European U-17 Top-100 rankings.[5]
Swimming career
National youth career (2020–2024)
- **2021** – Five national youth titles (50, 100, 200, 400 m free; 100 m breast), plus two Italian age-group records (50 m & 100 m free). [3]
- **2022** – Set Italian youth record in 400 m free (4:08.74 SCM) at Criteria Nazionali; won multiple titles including 800 m free and relays for Aniene.[6]
- **2023** – Gold in 400, 800, 1500 m free (all meet records) + silver in 200 m free at Italian Junior Nationals.[7]
- **2024** – At the 2024 Criteria Nazionali, won gold in 800 m (8:24.51) and 1500 m (16:10.27), silver in 400 m free and bronze in 200 m free.[8]
Senior national career (Assoluti)
- **2021** – Bronze medal in 4×200 m freestyle relay representing CC Aniene.[9]
- **2024** – Bronze in 1500 m freestyle (short course) at Italian Winter Championships, time 16:06.13 (Italian Cadetti/Junior record).[10]
