Priti Paul is Director Apeejay Surrendra Group.[5][6] Established in Jalandhar in 1910, the Apeejay Surrendra Group [7] has more than 43,000 employees. They have businesses in Tea, Hospitality, Shipping, Retail, Real Estate, Marine Clusters, Logistics and Knowledge Parks.

Early Life

Priti Paul was born on November 15, 1967. She is the granddaughter of Shri Pyare Lal and daughter of Surrendra Paul. She did a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, US. She went to Harvard University, US for her Masters in Design studies. She also holds a post graduate diploma in architecture from the Architectural Association School of Architecture, UK.[8][9]

Career

Priti Paul joined the Apeejay Surrendra Group in 1990,[10][11] She joined the Group’s Shipping business and established its office in London. She has also shaped the growth of Oxford Bookstores.[12] Oxford Bookstores is a leading iconic bookstore chain in India.[13][14][15][16][17] In the year 2000, Priti Paul launched Cha Bar, a tea boutique housed inside Oxford Bookstore. Priti Paul also heads Apeejay Real Estate, Apeejay Business Centers a co-working chain and Apeejay Global Logistics Park.[18][19] India’s first gallery on new media art, Apeejay Media Gallery in Delhi was started by her. [20]

She has also been at the forefront of education for children from economically weaker sections of the society through Apeejay Anand Children’s Library run for the benefit of street children.[21][22][23][24] Priti partnered with WWF India for raising funds for one-horned rhino conservation in Assam.[25] In 2006 she was nominated for the Teachers Achievement Award in the business category.[26] Rai University, India conferred her with an honorary degree of 'Doctorate of Business Administration.[27]

In 2017 Priti launched ABC Desi, an alphabet book to revive the almost lost Indian craft of bill board painting.[28][29][30]


Personal

Priti created cultural and literary forums to benefit children.[31] She was first to sponsor Jaipur Literature Festival.[32][33] She also supports the Romain Rolland Prize. She created Kolkata’s first literary festival– Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival in 2010.
