Licorice Pizza was a chain of music and video rental stores in Southern California, from 1969 to xxxx

History

The first store was opened in 1969 in Long Beach, California by James Greenwood, named after a skit from a Bud and Travis song that joked about sprinkling sesame seeds on a record and selling it as "licorice pizza"[1]

The chain began adding video rental sections to their stores in 1983, having them in 31 of 34 stores by the next year.[1][2]
