Peter James Martin

Peter James Martin (9 December 1927 - 3 October 2017) was an engineer and Antarctic scientist born in Westport, New Zealand. In 1955-56 he held the post of Officer in Charge at the New Zealand meteorological station on Raoul Island in the Kermadec islands. He spent the summer of 1958-59 tour of duty on Campbell Island, for the last two months as Officer in Charge. He was New Zealand Senior Scientist at Hallett Station in 1961[1], and Officer in Charge at Mawson Station in 1964.[2] Two Antarctic topographical features are named for him: Martin Hill (72°48’S 169°14’E), a hill at the west side of Whitehall Glacier in the Victory Mountains, Victoria Land; and Martin Massif (70°28’S 65°40’E) in the Porthos Range of the Prince Charles Mountains.
