This page describes the coding style I use in C++, which is inherited from GNU / Allman's

// license text

// brief explanation of file and stuff which we can find in it

#include <global>
#include "local"

namespace NS
{
    //! This is example class
    class Foo
    {
        public:
            // first declarations of functions
            //! This is example fc
            static void Bar();
            // variables
            char Bla;
        private:
            Foo();
    };

    void Foo::Bar()
    {
        // use this so that we can see clearly in source code of any length that this is a global class-scope variable
        this->Bla = 'x';
    }
}

Brackets: Why Allman and not K&R

Because this way you can see opening and closing brackets on same level. It makes it easier to read and parse in your head :-)

pros:

  • You never get troubles with brackets
  • You will always find a start and end of a block with quick look

cons:

  • Eat more spaces (this is pro at some point, because it makes it easier to see blocks, as they are divided by blank line as well)

Tabs vs spaces

4 spaces instead of a tab. Because different ide's render them in a different way

more to come
