Mr Thomas Fernandez
Thomas Fernandez is the Chairman and CEO of PestBusters Pte Ltd and co-authors of the following best seller books; “Secrets To Dominate Your Niche”, “Niche Dominator” and “Success Secrets Exposed”.
Early Life
In his early days, Thomas is hungry for knowledge, he went around searching for a course that would help him achieve this goal. There was no pest control school for him to attend in Singapore. His search ultimately led him to a pest control conference in Canada. It took him more than one year to convince Ken Doty, a 20 year veteran of the pest management business, to be his mentor. “As an entrepreneur, you must never lose hope”, Thomas advised.
When he started his business, Mr Thomas Fernandez invested heavily in training his staff, empowering them with relevant knowledge so that they are able to deliver and keep clients happy. Till today, Thomas strongly believes that knowledge is power and as an entrepreneur, it is imperative to know every detail about one’s products and services.
Thomas shared that as an entrepreneur, one needs to be hungry and not complacent. He believes in the importance of differentiating one’s business from that of competitors.
Business Career
Thomas also led his company to many other firsts in the industry – the first pest management company in Singapore to establish its own R&D facility supported by A*Star and the first home-grown pest management company to have received the ISO 9002 quality assurance award. PestBusters has received many accolades including Promising Small and Medium Enterprise from the Singapore Productivity and Standards Board (PSB) and People Developer Award.
A true blue market dominator, Thomas led PestBusters to dominate 95% of the highly competitive premium 5 Star Hotels. His high-profile clients are the Who’s Who of the hospitality industry including Marina Bay Sands Singapore, Mandarin Orchard Hotel, Grand Hyatt, Hilton, Raffles Hotel, The Fullerton, Shangri-La Group, Capella Singapore, The Ritz-Carlton, Conrad, W Hotel Singapore, Sofitel So Singapore and many others.
Thomas is also involved in successful businesses in other industries, such as Timbre @ The Arts House. He has mentored entrepreneurs like the owners of bridal boutique; Silhouette and solar film company; Cool N Lite.
Other involvments
Thomas is the current Vice President for Communications in the Association of Small and Medium Enterprise (ASME), the Co-Chairman of its EYA Committee and represents ASME as a committee member in the Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC). He was the President— 2013/2014 of Spirit of Enterprise (SOE) and currently, the Immediate Past President— 2015. He was also the Chapter President of the Entrepreneur Organization (EO) formerly known as the Young Entrepreneur Organization (YEO)— for 2006, a member of the Pi Chi Omega Professional Fraternity; a by-invitation only States-based fraternity for pest control professionals and has been invited to sit on board the committee for Tripartite Oversight On Workplace Health and is on the feedback committee of Lee Kwan Yew, Institute Of Policy Studies. Thomas’ achievements and PestBusters have been featured in various publications and in the media including Channel NewsAsia’s ‘The Million Makers’, CNBC, The Straits Times, Berita Harian, The Sunday Times, Today, Lianhe Zaobao, Lianhe Wanbao, Zaobao China, The Peak, Asian Business, CNET Asia, Asia Franchise and Business Opportunities, Newman, and numerous others.
