Name: Johanna, PhD

Neuroscientist, philosopher and passionate science communicator

Education

2020: PostDoc at the TUM School of Life Sciences, Department Neural Circuits and Metabolism

2016-2020: PhD in Systemic Neurosciences with the Graduate School of Systemic Life Sciences of the LMU Munich - employed at the Technical University of Munich (Department Neural Circuits and Metabolism) and the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology (Research Group 'Chemosensory Coding')

Phd thesis: "Neural mechanisms of pathogen-modulated feeding behaviour in Drosophila" - in this work, I described a mechanism underlying acquired aversions of spoiled food. I found that fruit flies are innately attracted to the odour of pathogenic bacteria, while ingestion of those pathogens induced a lasting avoidance of contaminated food. This feeding suppression required olfaction, the flies' learning and memory brain centre and two types of immune receptors in a specific type of neurons.

2013-2015: Master of Arts in philosophy at the LMU Munich - focus on neurophilosophy, philosophy of emotions and normative theory

2008-2013: Master and Bachelor of Science in biomedicine at the Julius-Maximilians-University in Würzburg - master thesis in molecular psychiatry, major fields of study: neuroscience and tumour biology, research internships in cancer immune therapy and tumor biology
