Mx.Enigma (pronouns: they/fae) is a Queer-Temani mixed-media artist, writer, filmmaker, stylist, curator, and organizer based in New York City. Their multidisciplinary practice explores queerness, Mizrahi heritage, and American identity through artivism, interactive rituals, and community-centered cultural production.
Early life and education
Mx. Enigma earned a B.A. in Media and Gender Studies from CUNY's Unique and Interdisciplinary studies program at The CUNY Graduate Center, in 2017 as a cum laude. In 2015 they were a full scholarship student at Ashcan Studios. They attended CUNY SPS for a M.A in Applied Theatre from 2022-2024.
Career
Exhibitions and residencies
Their work has appeared in over 40 galleries in NYC, including MoMA, the Bronx Museum, and the Tribeca Film Institute. They participated in the Brandies collegiate Residency 2017 and were an Artist in Residenceat Judson Memorial Church (2019).
Film and theatrical projects
- Mx.Enigma (Short Doc)(2016) screened at HBO Bushwick Film Festival, won Best Doc at BRIC Media Arts, and was a finalist at FICMA and Sunnyside Short. Directed / wrote “L’Chaim 2 Dykes” (2020), a play with the NYPL exploring queer ex-Hasidic women’s lives struggle with their custody battles in repressive environments.

Key works include Oppression Among the Stars, No Turning Back, and Declutter My View, White Boo!, focusing on identity, cultural erasure, and reclamation.

They identify as a queer non-binary Mizrahi Jew, with their background significantly influencing their creative journey.
