Bobby Lee Hammonds was the first child (born May 30, 1934) to John Carlos and Mattie Margaret (Peugh) Hammonds in a dirt floor log cabin near Saltillo, Texas without an attending doctor and weighing in at over ten pounds. He grew up fishing and hunting until he moved to White Settlement, Texas in his teens. He attended Brewer High School. His first child, Cheryl was born October 3, 1956. They moved to Houston, Texas. His second child, Monica Lee was born June 5, 1959. He worked in the new and used car sales business for many years in Houston. He was a member of the Go Texan Committee in the 1960's and 70's. His third child, Pamela was born February 12, 1966. In the late 1970's, he developed a neighborhood outside Sealy, Texas called Brazos Country which was later incorporated and is now known as Brazos Country, Texas. In the early 1980's, He developed Mentzwood, a neighborhood near Columbus and Mentz, Texas. He moved a home built around 1900 to the property and rebuilt it. He also moved an old schoolhouse on the property and used some of the lumber in the next home he built which was located about ten miles away. This new home he built himself from the floor up finishing in the early 2000's. The neighborhood he developed this time is Twelve Oaks where he and his wife, Janie Rose (Kulhanek) Hammonds (born July 28, 1962) live now.
