John M. Fasano (born August 24, 1961)[1] is an American film director, film producer, screen writer [2]and graphic artist[3]. With his writing partner, Roni Keller, he also wrote the book "Evie and the Golem", published in 2011 [4]. A weapons expert[5], John is a frequent writing contributor to such prominent magazines as "Guns and Ammo", "Combat Tactics"[6], and "American Handgunner"[7][8].

Fasano has directed 6 films, produced 20 and written the screenplays for 18 others[9]. He is currently in development on a contemporary remake of "Chariots of the Gods"[10][11][12].

Early Life

John M. Fasano was born in 1961,[13] in the city of Port Washington, New York[14]. John's first brush with show business occurred in 1969 when he brought coffee to Ben Gazzzara on the set of John Cassavettes "Husbands", which was shot in Port Washington [15]. A fan of Ray Harryhausen films[16], Fasano began making films at the age of 8 when, in his backyard, he created crude animations using armatured clay and Aurora models[17]. While still a student at Paul D. Schreiber High School in Port Washington, Fasano got his first job in film making working on industrials for the IBM corporation[18]. As a child, John spent much of his youth watching Japanese fantasy, monster and superhero movies including Starman, Ultraman, War of the Gargantuas, Gamera, and Godzilla [19]. He identified with their ability to overcome evil and protect the Earth[20]. At 13, John was an accomplished cartoon artist, making appearances at the National Cartoonist's Society in New York[21]. He continued his interest in the arts and film making during his college years at SUNY Purchase[22] and worked as the Film Research editor at Time Life's magazine, TV Cable Week [23].

Early Career

After graduating SUNYCollege at Purchase in 1984[24], John used his artistic talents art directing for magazines such as "Muscle and Beauty", "Race Car & Driver", "Wrestling Power" and "OUI" [25]. He also found work painting the one sheet posters for Grindhouse films such as "Tenement (Slaughter in the South Bronx)"and "DRILLER" [26] [27]for legendary SNUFF producers Walter Sear and Roberta Findlay. Fasano rewrote and acted in their film "Blood Sisters".[28][29]. His work impressed legendary "All in the Sex Family" producer Jack Bravman,[30]. He contracted Fasano to write and Assistant-direct the infamous "Zombie Nightmare"[31], starring Adam West and a young Tia Carerre. After that, John directed solo on the Cult Classic Rock Horrors "Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare"[32], "Black Roses" [33] and "The Jitters" [34]. After "The Jitters", Fasano moved Los Angeles in 1989 where he sold his first "spec script", "Tailgunner", to Morgan Creek[35]. He then wrote the screenplay for "Another 48 Hours" for director Walter Hill, [36] which launched him on his way in Hollywood. His first produced film, on which he was the assistant director and appeared as character "William Washington", was "Zombie Nightmare" [37][38], starring Adam West and Tia Carrere
