User:Memory palace
Hi, my name is Carol. I am an information junkie. (Hi, Carol.)
- I've been using the Internet since June 1994. My first email address was "[email protected]," my handle at my alma mater, SUNY Oswego. I'm a writer, old-school Netizen, professional technologist, and occasional artist and musician (I play bass guitar, violin, and some percussion).
- I've been editing Wikipedia entries since 2006. I'm still learning & working out the intricacies of Wikipedia participation; I find the whole process extremely gratifying. I'm always seeking to become more involved with the Wikipedia community (hence this page, finally, after remaining anonymous until May 2010).
- I like keeping a low profile (when I'm not floridly parading myself before millions of people on the Internet).
- I like noticing and correcting minute grammatical, factual, and statistical errors.
- I enjoy spontaneous road trips, live concerts, and dancing in faraway places (which, at times, include the inside of my mind).
- I live and work in Long Island City, NYC and Stockholm, Sweden. They are both pretty great. I won a NYC housing lottery in 2017—yes, it happens. As for the former, I’ve been obsessed with Scandinavia since I was a child. After visiting all the Nordic capitals, I decided to move to Sweden in 2024, becoming a resident in 2025.
- I was born in the Morris Park section of the Bronx, and grew up in Elmont, NY on the Queens / Long Island border.
- One of my proudest contributions to Wikipedia is the profile picture of Jon Fishman playing with Phish, which I took at Madison Square Garden on December 3, 2009.
- My username, Memory Palace, is a mnemonic device that uses the spatial relationships of objects (physical, mental, digital, etc.), to establish, order, and recollect, past, present, and/or future phenomena. I first heard it used in the context of a rhetorical commentary on the future of cyberspace, loosely connected to the short literary work of the same name, in the 2000 documentary about my favorite author, William Gibson, called No Maps for These Territories.
