"Onward" was an anarchist newspaper published out of Gainesville, Florida (U.S.) between Summer 2000 and Winter 2002/2003. On the quarterly paper´s masthead was the subtitle: "Anarchist News, Opinion, Theory, and Strategy of Today."

The project was established on May 2nd, 2000, in the euphoric wave of left activism after the successful mass direct action that shutdown the World Trade Organization meetings in Seattle, Washington in 1999, and the re-emergence of Mayday demonstrations across the country.


The newspaper brought together a wide swath of anarchists and radical leftists, including the Anarchist Black Cross Federation, the direct democracy tendency around the Institute for Social Ecology (ISE), the anti-racist activists of Colours of Resistance (COR)..., as well as non-anarchist


The paper was inspired by the Love and Rage newspaper and anarchist federation, differentiating itself from the individualist and primitivist tendencies that cohered around Green Anarchy newspaper... Sought to support a "social anarchist" political practice and engagement, seeking allies outside of the anarchist milieu...


Supporting concrete struggles such as that of the immigrant labor organization, the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW), which the editors had personally worked together with...


September 11, special issue, together with other anarchist papers, including Active Transformation, Clamor, ....


After a few years of full-time editorialship, burnout, and the desire amongst the editors to relocate to different cities, the paper was handed-off to two anarchist collectives in the Midwest. ....
