Easycore, also known as softcore, popcore or happycore (which can, however, also refer to happy hardcore, a style of electronic dance music) is a subgenre of punk rock that fuses pop punk with heavier styles (often rooted in hardcore punk) such as melodic hardcore, metalcore or post-hardcore. This can include switching between upbeat melodies and low-tuned breakdowns, or between clean singing and harsh screams. Melodic hardcore (which originated in the early 1980s) is itself a subgenre of hardcore influenced by pop punk, having also been referred to as "popcore", and was a major influence on skate punk, which has been taken up by some important pop punk bands such as The Offspring and Blink-182. Easycore as a distinct style was pioneered in the early 2000s by Four Year Strong, who were followed by A Day to Remember, whose sound is rooted in metalcore and who have had significant commercial success. Around the same time, popular pop punk bands New Found Glory and Sum 41 have also began incorporating elements of melodic hardcore into their sound. Other notable easycore bands were then formed, including Set Your Goals and Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!, with the latter popularising the style in Western Europe.
