Project: The Bachelor: On The WIngs of Love
Project Analysis: Episode 1, Season 14
Week 1: Recap
Jake Pavelka, the 32 year old Bachelor of last season, captured America with his charming personality and good looks. Jake was given 25 beautiful women to choose from, but he has to eliminate 10 by the end of week 1. Jake welcomes the women into the "bachelor house", that the show has given him to use, and tries to get to know all 25 by the rose ceremony. All 25 beautiful ladies show up in a limousine, to greet the bachelor and try and win his heart. He sent 10 girls home, that did not seem connected with him.
Analysis:
The Bachelor: On The Wings of Love seems to be a show based off of trying to find love, but it entails more. The women on this show are forced to compete with other beautiful women, and when they are not picked they pull themselves apart wondering why they were not good enough. You could see in week one, where the pressure was starting to effect some of the women. For example Michelle, ended up crying the first hour of the show because she felt she could not compete. Most of the women even kissed Jake, without knowing a single thing about him. This resulted in all the pressure their is to impress him. Jake on the other hand, has pressure to find his "soul mate" in 6 weeks. As the week unfolds you can tell that it gives him anxiety also.
The Bachelor: Week 2 Recap:
This week on the bachelor, Jake takes the girls on their very first group date. At this point in the show, the ladies are told that they can have group dates and one on one date with Jake. If you receive a rose on a one on one date you are automatically guaranteed to make it through the rose ceremony. If you do not receive a rose on your one to one, then you are automatically rejected from the show. On this group date the girls get pose with Jake in a photo shoot for InStyle magazine, and they are very excited about this chance. Every girl works her stuff, except Christina who feels nervous, and not “hot” enough. Jake takes notice of this and makes her feel more comfortable. He also likes this in her, because it shows she isn’t doing this show just to become famous, or boost her career. After the photo shoot they all head down to the pool to talk, and flirt. This decides Jakes decision, and the next day he sends a diamond necklace with Ali’s name on it. They attend a Chicago concert, and dance the night away. The second group date is next and Jake takes them to the amusement park. After this we see all the ladies back at the house, and Chris the host asks to speak with Rozlyn outside. We find out that she was having a “relationship” with one of the employee’s of the show. She is sent home, and the rose ceremony begins. Jake sends home Ashley.
Analysis: Girls seem to become very pushy, and want more and more time with Jake. Some of the girls are even acting strange around him. Michelle goes into a rage, and says she is packing up her things, once she finds out that she cant have "one on one" time with him. Also Rozlyn being kicked of the show, showed that this was indeed a television series that wanted drama. This provided for a drama filled episode, and in a way Rozlyn was embarrassed, and criticized.
Week 3—The Bachelor
Summary: There were 11 girls remaining for week three: Ali, Ashleigh, Corrie, Elizabeth, Ella, Gia, Kathryn, Michelle, Tenley, Valishia, and Vienna. In this episode two girls participate in a one-on-one date and 8 girls participate in the group date. Vienna receives the one-on-one date for this episode, which consists of a helicopter ride leading up to bungee jumping off of a bridge. The experience bonds Vienna and Jake, they share their first kiss in this episode. As for the group date, Jake brings 8 of the ladies to Jon Lovitz’s Comedy Club. Instead of meeting Jon Lovitz and seeing a show though, they meet Jon Lovitz who informs them that they will all be performing in his club for a live audience. The ladies’ stand up acts were entertaining some were shocking and some were just offensive. At the end of the group date Michelle had a heart to heart conversation with Jake about her intentions for being there and he then asked her to leave. The next group date went to Ella. On Ella and Jake’s one on one date they flew to Sea World where Ella’s son was waiting to spend the day with her in celebration of her birthday, at the end of the date Jake gave Ella a rose that kept her safe through another ceremony. In the end of this episode Elizabeth and Valishia were chosen to leave. Only eight girls remain for week four.
Analysis: This episode is full of exploitation. The exploitation of Michelle and her emotions publicized on national television was wrong as well as the exploitation of Ella’s young son. I think that all the exploiting shown in this episode was unethical.
Week 4—The Bachelor
Summary: In this episode there were 8 girls remaining: Ali, Ashleigh, Corrie, Ella, Gia, Kathryn, Tenley, and Vienna. The remaining girls were told they were permanently leaving the mansion and the remainder of the show would be filmed on a road trip. On this episode there was only a single one-on-one date, one group date, and one two-on-one date. The one-on-one date went to Gia, it was her first time one on one with Jake and they went on a picnic in the vineyard and then Jake presented Gia with a rose to guarantee that she make it through the rose ceremony on this episode. The group date consisted of Ali, Ashleigh, Corriem Tenley, and Vienna; they went on a dune buggy excursion and all the girls had a chance to display their adventurous side, in the end Tenley got the safety rose. Finally the two-on-one date, which went nothing as it was planned. The two-on-one date was very awkward so Jake pulled each lady aside to make it more one-on-one, he got to know Kathryn and Ella on another level and ended up asking both of them to leave. In the end there are only 5 girls remaining: Tenley, Gia, Ali, Corrie, and Vienna.
Analysis: In this episode, I feel like none of the girls were given a fair chance. The two girls asked to leave at the rose ceremony had not been given enough time one-on-one time for him to even know if they were his “soul-mate” and the girls on the two on one date obviously felt cheated since at least one of them was supposed to be guaranteed a rose. Jake changed up the game on the girls way too much in this episode.
