L.olding recently completed an MRes degree at the University of Southampton, UK.

He submitted a dissertation examining the impact of Benjamin Disraeli's travels to the Near East on his imagined 'Orient' captured in his fiction. By examining his letters alongside his novels, he examined how far his view was amended by his travels and how much remained of his pre-existing opinions prior to travel.

He recently submitted an essay examining the place of the Lower East Side in American-Jewish memory, particuarly the role of literature and film in creating a histogeographical place that exists outside of time, in spite of groundings in some form of reality.

L.olding recently completed an undergraduate dissertation at the university examining the representation of changing German-Jewish characters in the poetry and prose of Heinrich Heine. In this extended paper he argued that Heine's Rabbi von Bacherach's three chapters displayed three distinct representations of Germany-Jewry from the mediaeval ghetto to the modern Jew and finally to a projected 'post-modern' Jew represented in the figure of Don Isaac.
