Victoria Kovalenchikov

Victoria Kovalenchikova is a European mixed-media artist based in Amsterdam. She was born in Mogilev, Belarus. Her work has been exhibited in more than 100 shows throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States. It is also featured on Philips Corporation’s High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, Netherlands; the Museum of Russian Art, Jersey City (USA); and the Kolodzei Art Foundation of New York City.

She is the winner of First Prize and Gold Medal of Honor “LORENZO Il MAGNIFICO” at the VIII International Florence Biennale of Contemporary Art 2011 for her paintings “NO EXIT” (2011) and “Reflected Reality” (2010).

She was also awarded the 2011 Award for Enriching and Promoting Arts and Culture by the Ministry of Culture of The Republic of Belarus.

Most notable among Kovalenchikov's work is the Earth collection, a series of three-dimensional representations of the planet from the perspective of outer space. The works are in a variety of sizes, from small 1'x1' squares to wall-sized art.

She was born in the shadow of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in neighboring Ukraine, and Kavelenchikov's art has attempted to put the viewer both within the framework of earth and society through earlier urban scapes, and most recently through the Earth series.

Victoria says, "What I wish to show in my new Earth series is that our planet itself is a work of art---a kaleidoscope of colors, a patchwork of patterns; an interconnected sphere without beginning or end. Viewing it from space, using Google images, I want this collection to showcase this amazing entity, in order that we may appreciate and ultimately save it."
