OilX is an oil data analytics and oil market intelligence company that provides oil traders and analysts working for oil majors, refineries, integrated oil companies, hedge funds, trading houses and investment banks, with real-time oil analytics based on a combination of satellite tracking data and reports from various official organizations, including customs, JODI, and statistics agencies[1]. OilX is headquartered in London, United Kingdom with offices in Athens, Greece.
OilX was co-founded in 2018 by Florian Thaler, a former oil strategist at hedge fund Och-Ziff, Shell and Citigroup and a three-year member of the 100 Future Energy Leaders (FEL-100)[2], and Signal Ocean, the company’s technology partner[3]. The OilX Platform, the world's first digital oil analyst, launched in 2019.[4] In collaboration with and support from the European Space Agency (ESA), OilX uses satellite data to map the flow of the world’s oil.[5][6][7] In 2020, OilX raised $2.2 million in funding from Citi and South Korea’s GS Caltex[8].
Based on Artificial Intelligence (AI), the OilX platform can process and offer traders comprehensive visualization of the global crude oil market and reliable oil fundamentals data in a fraction of the time traditional oil supply and demand analysis takes[9]. The company has effectively created a digital twin of the oil supply chain without owning any assets in the chain, by applying AI and satellite technology to enable oil traders to make better decisions much faster than traditionally.[10][11][12]
