Caleb Aland was a 9 year old shark attack victim. Caleb was attack by a 4-5 ft black tip shark in Panama City Beach, FL.

On June 24th 2004, Caleb Aland was out at the beach with his family celebrating his brother's birthday. Caleb and long time friend Andrew were out in the water when Caleb was attacked. He was bit from behind and viscously dragged through the water until he was released. His friend dragged him as far as he could before the Dad of Caleb Aland came out and took him the rest of the way to the shore. Paramedics met them on the beach 10 minutes later to attempt to stabilize him. Paramedic Caroline Bennet said, "He had lost a lot of blood, his shoulder was hanging off his body and I honestly thought we were going to lose him right then." A helicopter arrived within 10 minutes and medivacted Caleb to Bay Medical Hospital in Panama City. Due to massive blood loss Caleb underwent two heart procedures. Two weeks later Caleb was released from the hospital with 48 staples down his sternum and 62 around his left shoulder blade. Aland says he is not scared of sharks now and he still loves to wade fish and has encountered many more sharks out in the water. "It is what it is. I know God was looking out for me. To be honest im still more scared of sting rays." Caleb's story was set to air on SHARKWEEK in 2005 but the family did not want the publicity. Caleb Aland is doing well today set to start his senior year of baseball and looking to be drafted straight out of highschool.
