Rosary College of Commerce and Arts

Rosary College of Commerce and Arts based in Navelim, Goa, India is an accredited higher-education institution affiliated with Goa University. The college has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous body that evaluates the quality of higher-education institutions in India. The institution is governed by the Diocesan Society of Education for Goa and Daman

History

Rev. Canon José Roberto Vaz is credited for the founding of Rosary College with the help of Prof. Newman Fernandes in 1992 while he served as the parish priest of the 'Our Lady of Rosary Church' situated in Navelim, hence the name of the college is an ode to the patron of the Church and the village of Navelim. Rev. Vaz was highly instrumental in the conception of the college and fought very hard for its establishment, he is said to have persuaded some church officials to sell their land to raise money for the college building. The foundation for the building structure was laid on 15th August 1991. He is credited as the founder not just of the edifice but also of the morals and values the college stands for today. The college falls under the wide umbrella of The Diocesan Society of Education Goa and Daman who manage more than fifty schools in Goa, a structure that evolved during the Portuguese colonial rule in Goa and still endures which in turn falls under the 'Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Goa and Daman'.

Administration

The college is managed by The Diocesan Society of Education which is headed by Archbishop of Goa His Grace Rt. Rev. Filipe Neri Ferrão as the alongside other core committee members. The current Principal of the collage is Prof. (Dr.) Helic M. Barretto, who joined the college in 1994 as a lecturer, he is supported by Dr. (Fr.) Jeronimo D’ Silva as the vice principal while also heading the psychology department as an assistant professor, while Rev. Gabriel Coutinho acts as the current Administrator of the college.
